Indena’s Meriva has been awarded “Best New Product” of the year by a European outsourcing panel.
October 12, 2010
By: Tim Wright
Indena’s Meriva has been awarded “Best New Product” of the year by a European outsourcing panel. The award is presented to companies that have developed a product that, through excellence in research, development and/or manufacturing, has resulted in the launch of a new offering in the pharma/biopharma sector that demonstrates substantial benefits to patient populations compared to existing therapeutics for that disease condition. Meriva is complex of curcumin (Curcuma longa L.) that uses the basic principles of the Phytosome strategy to improve bioavailability. Recent studies have demonstrated a 20-fold enhanced bioavailability of Meriva compared to a standardized curcumin extract. Also, a recent long-term clinical study has demonstrated safety and efficacy in the treatment of inflammatory diseases. “We’re very pleased to receive this award,” said Christian Artaria, Indena marketing director and head of functional food development at Indena. “Indena’s model of identifying research and industrial collaborations ranging from R&D Institutions to hospitals and private clinics early in the product development cycle has again proven effective in shortening the time to market with this exciting product.”
